Notes from the sheets.
The brief, such as it was, came from the photographer: a river that has been a border for eighty years and a bridge that has been open for twenty. What does that do to a bakery?
The rule
Twenty kilometres each side, no further. Nothing at the crossing itself after the first year, because the crossing is where every other photographer stands.
What came back
Seventeen visits, three of them in winter when nothing moved. The project closed in 2023 not because it was finished but because the photographer said the pictures had started repeating themselves, which is the honest reason to stop.
In the archive
19,400 frames, catalogued with the bank, the town and the date. Twelve have been licensed. The other 19,388 are why the twelve mean anything.
