Biography
Sophie Martin has photographed since 2006 and has edited the archive at The Plate since 2014. She still shoots two assignments a year, on the principle that an editor who has stopped working asks for pictures that cannot be made.
Her own long project is the coast: eleven stretches of shoreline, rephotographed every spring since 2012. Her interest is narrower than that sounds — how to caption a place honestly when you have been going back long enough to have opinions about it.
