Biography

Rafael Ortega has lived in Mexico City since 2014 and has covered it for the agency since 2016. He is the photographer the desk points to when explaining why the first week of an assignment is thrown away: he arrives before the research, walks the same route at the same hour, and opens the file in week two.

He shoots one long commission a year outside the city and refuses the others, on the grounds that a photographer who is always somewhere else stops being able to see home.
